Seriously, a patent on a gene? Why do you get a patent for a gene in the first place. It's a naturally occuring thing.
I mean, would Newton get a patent for gravity in this day and age? And any idea that utilized gravity would have to pay royalties?
It's stupid.
Note: issuing patents for drugs which utilize said gene, or if the test to find the gene were itself patented by the company, means that it's a different story, but the article suggested it was the gene itself.
