| Let’s play Oregon Trail! It seems it’s customary to give background on the games before starting one of these LPs, so whatever. Chances are you’ve played this. Anyway. It’s the mid-1800s. Manifest Destiny, Gold Rush, all that good stuff. Our fictional group has decided we want in. We can have 3-6 people. I figure 6 will take the longest time to die. We need names and ages. Wagons can be small, large, or Conestoga. We also need a job. And skill sets. I’m sticking with 1848 and Independence. No real reason. But what month will we leave? Just because I’d like to get to the part where we dieget to our destination (which will be either the Willamette or Sacramento Valley), here are our shopping options. Total cash on hand is scratched out because it will depend on what job we pick. Pre-made: General store: Clothing store: Stable: _________________ Perhaps there is something wrong with the Brain Tumbler. Or you could be insane, but we'll run tests on that later.

| This version of Oregon Trail is strange and frightening to me. I am disappointed to see that there's now not one, not two, but three jobs worse than farmer. John Smith Jr. the teacher (age 25) is traveling with his father John Sr. (age 47), his wife Jane (age 17), son John III (age 5), brother James (age 20), and Jane's spinster sister Camilla (age 27). Skills should be medical, carpentry, cooking, and Spanish. Wagon and supplies go however we can manage to burn exactly $500. The -est family to ever . _________________ |

| oh, you're playing the MAC version, this is the one I used to play. artist, for sure. Mitch, Sonya, Carrie, Blaike, Ryan and Steve are travelling together to Oregon because their PARENTS JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND! GOD! They refuse to go hunting, opting instead to try to buy veggies at the local convenience store. Also they don't want to buy anything used for violence, or anything made from animals. I think you need to buy something to pull your wagon to play, so that can be an exception. skills are musical, sewing, cooking, botany, riverwork, spanish Errata: actually it's not the one I used to play Also, let's go to OREGON, when we go on the OREGON TRAIL, PLZKTHX _________________ | Quote: | | The world is a mess and I just need to... rule it. |

| This sure is way the hell more complicated than the old Apple II version. Many were the times I'd while away the hours selecting a party, buying no food, setting the pace to "grueling" and the rations to "meager," and seeing how fast I could kill them off. _________________ "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. | All right, then. Vegan teens it is! This cannot possibly end badly! SHOPPING! No animal products. 8 oxen. VEGGIES AND FRUIT. All the instruments, too – we’re putting that musical skill to use! Decisions! _________________ Perhaps there is something wrong with the Brain Tumbler. Or you could be insane, but we'll run tests on that later.

| I thought of doing that, but given the recent activity on the board, I figured it would've taken forever to get six people for a party. 2 works for me! Slight adjustments to the pacing. And we're off! RIVER! What do we do? For expediency's sake, I'm going to automatically continue at most landmarks. Forts, rivers, towns, and injuries will be the bulk of participation. Also, tell me if you think they should go at maximum speed. _________________ Perhaps there is something wrong with the Brain Tumbler. Or you could be insane, but we'll run tests on that later.

| I suppose it'd depend on whether we're trying to make logical decisions or illogical ones, but it'd be hard to kill anyone or destroy anything here, so I'd say just ford the river. _________________ "There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. | I notice there's a butcher and a baker, but no candlestick maker. I am already disappointed in this version of the game. Caulk the wagons and float! |
