| Good luck, Faolan, on finding a place to live. D: *hugs LM* I'm really glad your mom took it well. Someone on the DD Fansite was going on the forums secretly and also on Skype, while her parents weren't around. Well, when her mom walked in on her room and saw her skyping and on the forum yesterday night, she flipped out. She couldn't reason with her mom that they couldn't possibly find her and rape her, since, you know, none of them know where she lives (and truthfully I don't either), but she didn't listen. So now she has to lurk. _________________ r1nn's current awesome art progress: I've been pretty busy because of school, so I don't have anything from September - now up. so wait until later, and check out these two links. |

| How old was this person, Rin? I'm guessing probably younger. Parents can and often do trump what the child thinks is "right", even when the child is old enough to judge that for themselves. I don't think there's anything wrong with making rules for computer use, or anything else, while someone is still immature. (Although I never really got into the computer as a kid, and it wasn't' till High School that I ever really IMed someone.) I think more of it also has to do with the fact that her mom thought she wasn't doing it, and caught her doing it. Sort of like how every mom everywhere flips out when they catch you doing something they explicitly don't want you to. Can you reason with them? Yes, you can, but it's better not to try right at that moment because they're really more pissed that you kept it a secret than that you did it at all, anyway. In the end, I think Lady is intelligent, and so long as she can remind her parents that she is intelligent, and she DOES know to be careful on the internet, then her parents, being reasonably minded people, should trust her to do so. x D If you want me to call your mom and inform her that I am NOT, in fact, a child rapist, I would be more than happy to. _________________ | Quote: | | The world is a mess and I just need to... rule it. |

| I've been posting all my info in the hopes that Pink would come and find me. : ( He has yet to do so. *hugs Mac* Give her some time before telling her, I guess. Drop some hints or just talk to her seriously about it and inform her that for some time we've known what you look like, your age, etc. and nothing happened. Faolan, my friend, I know how you feel. I was recently in that position, until I found out that I have a job still, so it won't be so bad. And Franz, it's too late, Pink is on his way! | Actually, she's about the same age as LM. Maybe a year or so younger, but not more than that. But yeah, I can see the parent's POV on all this. _________________ r1nn's current awesome art progress: I've been pretty busy because of school, so I don't have anything from September - now up. so wait until later, and check out these two links. |

| Lady M: I met my fiancee online. It wasn't a dating site, just the White Wolf RPG HTML chats. It was nearly a year, I think, before we even knew first names, and several years (during which we were both in a few relationships) before things turned romantic, and another year after that before we actually met in person. The only way her mother could be convinced I wasn't an axe-murderer seeking to pull in a victim, though, was to meet me in person (apparently, even Level 1 Mothers have the "Sense Axe-Murderer" ability at will). So I'm well used to the fears many of the previous generation place on the whole "internet" concept. Don't feel too guilty about it, but eventually, you'll probably want to come clean on some of it. When you do, stress that you exercise due caution (public meeting place, preferably with other friends around, etc). |

| I hear all these stories and realize how awesome my parents are/were (and no doubt how much I worried them). On the first forum I was really part of, I met a group, had them become RL friends and have even visited/stayed with them. This especially came in handy when someone was in the same city as a concert I wanted to go to. :D Also, I told my dad about Skype and he thinks it's a neat thing. But then he's secretly a computer-tech guy, so... Ah, good times. _________________ "Dude, that ship has sailed, sunk, rusted and is now a thriving coral reef." | What I find really hilarious (and by that I mean fucking scary) is that parents flip out about people online, but let their kids go off with RL friends they haven't even met, and they don't even know where they're going. Let's compare the number of internet-related rapes/murders with the number of RL ones per year. Clearly, leaving your house at all is more dangerous than posting information online, so let's lock those doors and hide in our rooms. No one seems even willing to consider that maybe our society is fucked up and it's not all the scary robots' fault. |

| Nah, my parents pretty much cover all bases on paranoia. I'm pretty sure the only reason my parents haven't made me introduce them to my friends on campus is that I'm in a different state. _________________ Perhaps there is something wrong with the Brain Tumbler. | Yeah, I know your parents are a special kind of over-protective. At least they make sense to me in that they seem to be consistent. I was just ranting about people in general, mainly because the topic strikes a nerve. |

| My car over heated when I was at home in another state on Saturday night. I wasn't able to get it fixed until yesterday. We had to tow it to the shop. I ended up not being able to drive back last night because it was really late by the time I got back. So I had to wake up at 6 am to try to drive back up here to attempt to make it to work on time. It's normally a 4 hour drive. I made it though, but now I'm really tired. Stupid cracked radiator. _________________ Formally known as the German word for dragon.

| I just today discovered that, if I'd wanted it, I could've spent several years getting public housing aid (and thus, saving, investing and/or spending considerably more money elsewhere)--but that currently, because I'm living with my fiancee, our combined income wouldn't allow for that. |

| I thought I was really doing better in school. I mean, I'm not stupid, but this year has just been really not good for me...And I felt like I was actually coming out of a slump and I thought I was doing all my work and shit and pasing the tests and pulling all my grades up. But if anything they might be worse. _________________ My father is a bastard, my ma's an S.O.B.
